WARNING: Advance Booking Strongly Suggested
Happy Friday, everyone! I’ve got good news and bad news for you today.
Bad news: nothing in this post offers fun suggestions for this weekend.
Good news: these events are coming up and I want to make sure you’ve got enough time to plan in advance.
Jazz Age Lawn Party, August 13-14
Michael Arenella’s 11th Annual event. I’ve been wanting to go to this event since I found out about it last year. Jazz on the lawn on Governor’s Island with a 1920s/flapper vibe. It’s good music combined with a costume party. A great recipe for fun and to meet someone just as cool.
Lower-tier tickets are selling out but as of two days ago, general admission Tier 2 for August 13th and general admission Tier 1 on August 14th are still available. I would consider one of the meal packages if it allows me to cut the lines – I hate standing in cue for anything.

Heroes and Villains Fan Fest, July 2-3
If you’re passionate about dressing up as your favorite super hero or villain, it would be ideal if you could find someone who shares this passion with you. Here’s a great event where you could find that special someone.
It’s at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, just one stop on NJ transit out of Penn Station. What’s great is that almost all NJ Transit trains stop at Secaucus Junction so even on the weekend, you will get frequent service. It’s a 5-minute ride.

Brooklyn Lobster Festival, various dates in July
I love lobster. I don’t love having to work for that delicious meat by getting my hands soiled in crushed exoskeleton, but fortunately, at this event, there are plenty of labor-free, prepared dishes to be enjoyed.
Also, the event takes place at The Hall at MP in Brooklyn, only the most happening borough in the city. So find a date that works for you, enjoy some excellent grub, beer and music, then take a stroll around Williamsburg and I dare you not to have a good time.
Visit The Hall at MP’s website for more details on the event. Again, if you’re a Goldstar member, ticket discounts can be found here.
P.S. I have no affiliation with Goldstar. Just trying to help you save money.
